Mysore Race Club

Mysore Race Club is the most picturesque in the country. It is located in the foothills of Chamundi Hills. MRC has a distinct identity of its own. Racing is a year round activity now. Mysore Race Club is a century old. The Royal Family of Mysore set up a wonderful racecourse at the foothills of Chamundi Hills, after moving it from Kebbe Katte. The existing race course was built at the time of His Highness Sri Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar, who was a great sportsperson and a lover of race horses and he himself owned many of them. The MRC is spread across 152 acres of land and has a beautiful ‘Paddock Complex’. The race track is oval in shape. In the initial years, racing was restricted to six race days and held under the guidance of Royal Calcutta Turf Club. All clubs in India were affiliated to Royal Calcutta Turf Club which in turn was affiliated to Jockey Club of England. The main attraction of the six day racing was the running of the “Maharaja’s Cup”.
The patrons of Mysore Race Club were His Highness Maharaja of Mysore and Sir Oliver St John. The first chairman was Sir.S.V.Subramaniam. He tried to revive the both Horse Racing and Gymkhana Racing after the registration of the club.In 1968, Mysore Race Club Limited was formed. The MRC is racing under the Bangalore Turf Club’s rules of racing. The Turf Club is currently in the process of building 800 top quality stables. The MRC conducts Inter-venue Betting on almost all the centers of racing in India. Out of the Inter-venue Betting Tickets purchased by the public Rs.1.50 is contributed towards the Charitable Trust. The Charitable Trust has acquired an acre of land at Siddhartha Layout, Mysore. The Charitable Trust has declared to build a hospital in stages.
The Mysore Race Club has built a Golf Hut and allows its members and Sri Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar Golf Club members to play in the club. The club organizes “Sri Jayachamaraja Wodeyar Memorial Golf Tournament” every year.
